Lucinda Hunt
Lucinda was appointed Director of the Royal Institution in January 2020, following a longstanding history as a trustee and member of the Nominations Committee.
Lucinda has spent her professional life in education, teaching Physics, Mathematics and other science subjects in a wide variety of schools in three countries. She is passionate about making STEM education, exciting and relevant and encouraging young people to engage with challenging ideas and concepts. She has worked to encourage more girls to take up science, mathematics and engineering subjects throughout her career. She was Head at Notting Hill and Ealing High School from 2008-2016.
Lucinda holds a BSc (Hons) in Physics from Imperial College London and a PGCE from the University of Oxford. She began her career in 1982 as a Teacher at The Cherwell Upper School, a large comprehensive school in Oxford. After a variety of teaching posts in Australia and France she returned to the UK in 1991, joining Putney High School to teach Physics throughout the school. She moved to Wimbledon High School a year later, becoming Head of Sixth Form in 1996 and Head of the Faculty of Sciences in 1998.
Following a yearlong secondment to Goldman Sachs in 2000, she was appointed to the position of Deputy Head-Director of Studies at St Paul’s Girls’ School, before taking up her role as Head at NHEHS in 2008.
Lucinda stepped down from her role as Head at NHEHS in August 2016, to spend more time sailing, skiing and improving her French. She is also enjoying having the time and the opportunity to develop other aspects of her professional life, including her role as Deputy Chair of Council at Brunel University London and her longstanding commitment to the Royal Institution.
