Share your memories of CHRISTMAS LECTURES and Discourses

Throughout 2025 we’re celebrating the 200th anniversaries of the CHRISTMAS LECTURES and Ri Discourses, and we’re asking as many people as possible to share their memories of these two landmark series.

1825 was a momentous year for science, as Michael Faraday started two of the world's most famous lecture series.

The CHRISTMAS LECTURES started in our Theatre and continue to inspire children and adults alike on TV every December, becoming a long-standing tradition in many families.

That same year, Faraday also founded Discourses, a series of lectures for adults that shine a light on leading-edge science. It was during a Discourse that photography, the light bulb and the discovery of the neutron were announced. This series also continues to this day with monthly lectures that anyone can attend.

200 years to remember

To mark this double 200th anniversary, we’re asking as many people as possible to share their memories of these two landmark series.
