Lawrence Bragg begins by demonstrating some of the familiar effects of reflections and refraction by means of a beam of light passing through water, a prism and lenses. This is followed by a description of total internal reflection, with a model diamond used to demonstrate its effects. He then turns to polarization, explaining what is meant by polarized light and illustrating its effects both experimentally and with the aid of models.
