The partnership combines the pioneering spirit of science with cutting-edge technology and innovation, and provides valuable support for the Ri in delivering the CHRISTMAS LECTURES and its wider charitable activities. The partnership was secured by sponsorship agency Reg&Co.
The Ri is an independent charity dedicated to bringing the public and scientists together to share their interest and passion for science. The Ri's vision that science is for everyone is based on a belief that there should be equitable access to science and scientists.
The CHRISTMAS LECTURES, established in 1825 by renowned scientist Michael Faraday, have become a beloved tradition, igniting curiosity and sparking scientific interest among generations of viewers. Over the years, these lectures have been a source of inspiration, engaging audiences of all ages in the wonders of science.
CGI, one of the largest independent IT and business consulting services firms in the world, shares the Ri's dedication to fostering a passion for science and discovery. This partnership underscores their commitment to supporting education and promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects among young learners.
The CHRISTMAS LECTURES are an awe-inspiring celebration of science, seamlessly blending the Royal Institution's rich tradition with CGI’s experience in delivering complex things well.
This year’s CHRISTMAS LECTURES – ‘The truth about AI’ with Professor Mike Wooldridge, promise to be a spectacular exploration of one of the most important and rapidly evolving areas of science today. The 2023 Lectures will be broadcast on BBC Four and iPlayer in late December, before being made available online for a global audience, making science accessible to viewers worldwide.
Tara McGeehan, President of CGI in the UK and Australia, said: “At CGI, we are deeply passionate about supporting STEM education in schools and growing the innovative pool of talent which we recruit from. Myself, and many of my colleagues, have been avid viewers of the CHRISTMAS LECTURES since our own school days and appreciate the inspiration and understanding that they can bring to seemingly complex topics. The CHRISTMAS LECTURES from The Royal Institution provide us with a platform to engage with schools and young individuals, facilitating discussions about the importance of science in society and our daily lives.”
Rich Storton, Director of Fundraising at The Royal Institution, said: “We are extremely excited to have CGI as a title partner on our world-renowned CHRISTMAS LECTURES for the next three years. With their support we will be able to reach new and more diverse audiences to engage with science and scientists.”
Stu Richmond, Director of Reg&Co, said: “The Royal Institution’s partnership with CGI will help engage an increasing number of children and adults on all things STEM through their many explorative workshops, educational resources for schools and theatre and livestream talks.”
Further partnership opportunities are available around the 2023 CHRISTMAS LECTURES as well as the Ri’s other science shows, workshops, events and activities.
