How do I apply?
- Read the What are we looking for in your application? PDF and take a brief look at the online application form to see what information we will require from you
- Select a maths activity from the STEM Directory
- Contact the activity provider to:
a. Book a provisional date for your activity and discuss your requirements
b. Make sure that the provider is aware that you are applying for a grant to cover the activity costs and that you may not be successful - Complete the online application form by 29 October 2017
Grants of £500 are offered for schools to experience a maths activity selected from the STEM Directory. This scheme is generously supported by the Clothworkers’ Foundation.

Am I eligible to apply?
In order to apply for a grant, you need to:
- Be from a state-funded primary or secondary school/academy, sixth-form or FE college in the UK
- Be a member of the school staff who is involved in teaching a maths subject in the school
- Make contact with your activity provider before the application deadline
Please note that the assessment process gives priority to disadvantaged schools.
What are the grants for?
£500 towards any activity with a significant maths component listed on the STEM Directory.
- This £500 can be used to cover fees and expenses of the activity provider as well as travel expenses incurred by the school. Any other expenses incurred by the school are not covered
- All activities need to be completed between 1st January 2018 and the end of the 2018 summer term
What happens after I’ve submitted an application?
- Your application will be assessed and you will receive notification of the outcome on or before 27 November 2017 (whether or not you were successful)
- If you are successful, you will be asked to confirm your provisional booking with your provider and to sign a contract agreeing to the grant terms and conditions
- Once your activity has taken place, your school will be expected to pay your activity provider according to their payment terms*
- You will be asked to complete online feedback about the activity
- Following receipt of feedback, the Ri will reimburse your school for the cost of the activity up to a maximum of £500 including VAT.
*We recognise that some schools may be unable to pay for their activity prior to reimbursement. If this applies to your school, please contact the Royal Institution so that we can make alternative arrangements.
