Accountable to: Finance Manager/Head of HR and Organisational Development

Location: Albemarle St, London, with opportunity for hybrid working

Contract type: 12 month fixed term contract 28 hours per week - will consider flexible work patterns

Salary: c. £28k pro-rata (£22,400 actual)

About the Royal Institution

The Royal Institution (Ri) is an independent charity which has been connecting people with science for over 200 years. Founded in 1799 through the wonderful generosity of 58 patrons, to this day we remain based in our original, magnificent, Georgian home in central London and have inspired generations of scientists over the years whose discoveries have helped shape our modern world. Our multi-purpose building is open to the public as a museum, acts as a busy events venue, and provides office accommodation for the Ri team and commercial tenants.

About the role

This is a new role designed to assist the Finance & HR teams with their day to day operations including invoicing, reconciliation, and reporting as well as HR and administrative support.

You will be responsible for processing sales invoices and staff expenses, working closely with the finance team on month end and payroll checking.

This role also offers the opportunity to work with the HR team assisting with recruitment advertising and response handling, producing new starter documentation and contract variation letters and maintaining employee files. 

About You

We are looking for excellent administration skills and experience of working in an office environment (ideally finance or HR).

You will have: 

  • Excellent administration skills, and experience of working in an office environment (ideally in Finance or HR)
  • Experience of data entry with a high level of speed and accuracy
  • Experience of dealing with confidential/sensitive information
  • Good knowledge of accounting procedures, principles and controls
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Outlook and Word), with a willingness to learn and use new systems. Strong organisational and time management skills

Some experience of working in the charity, education or not for profit sectors would be advantageous, as well as experience of working with accountancy & HR systems. This role is 28 hours per week and flexible working patterns will be considered. Benefits include 33 days leave (incl.
